Executive Director

Pamela Elmi, Executive Director works to strengthen the organization's ties to the community, school district, parents, and local foundations and businesses. PYA's programs are supported by part-time staff who serve as teachers, tutors and activity coordinators. The program also depends on about 75 volunteers who serve in its after-school programs and provide technical support. We have added an ESL Specialist position to our Pannell Site as a service to our Latin-American families.

History

Princeton Young Achievers (PYA) began in 1993 in partnership with the Princeton regional schools, two sponsors of affordable housing in Princeton, and concerned parents. The mission of the group was to provide constructive after-school activities for under-resourced youth in neighborhood learning centers. The program has since expanded.

Today, PYA serves nearly 100 elementary school children in after-school programs at three Learning Centers in the Princeton area. PYA also partners with the community in special projects and other activities that increase children's academic self-confidence and love of learning.

Parents and PYA

Parents have been at the forefront of our organization throughout PYA's history. Centers are open to parents so that they can see their children work and also meet the staff andvolunteers. The PYA Parent Committee meets on a regular basis where parents can address their concerns, and gain access to the information and resources they need.
